- "In the course of their afternoon-long investigation through St Mystere, Luke and Layton hear a rumour about some mysterious kidnappings. The professor has a hunch that Ramon's disappearance and these kidnappings must be connected. In a quest for further details, the intrepid pair continue their search of St Mystere into the night."
Night Falls is the fourth chapter in Professor Layton and the Curious Village.
Plot[]
Layton and Luke leave Crouton’s restaurant as it grows dark. On their way to the cafe to inquire about the disappearance of Ramon, Gerard bumps into them, having lost his wristwatch, and insists they help him by searching for it in the park. At the park gates, they are told that the wristwatch is in the inn with Beatrice. Beatrice gives Layton the wristwatch, and when asked about Ramon she tells them that he can often be found at the cafe. Once the wristwatch is returned to Gerard, they decide to search the cafe next.
On the way to the cafe, they are frequently dissuaded from being outside after dark for fear of the tower. Crumm, who runs the cafe, tells them that Prosciutto has been insisting that the disappearances are in fact sinister kidnappings committed by an old man. At Prosciutto’s house, they are told about an incident four days prior, in which Prosciutto had been returning from the market when he’d spotted a sinister-looking man who he’d immediately concluded to be a serial kidnapper.
Layton and Luke decide to stop at this point and return to the manor to report their findings when they witness a man who matches Prosciutto’s description stuffing Ramon’s body into a bag. They chase him through the village but to no avail. Moments later, the tower lights up with another thunderous noise. Upon returning to the site of the kidnapping, they find a small cog identical to the cog they discovered where Simon’s body had been found.
They return to Reinhold Manor, where Layton insists on setting up a search party to find Ramon, but Ramon returns moments later with no recollection of his kidnapping whatsoever.
The next morning, Beatrice alerts Layton that Inspector Chelmey was asking for him. On the way to Reinhold Manor to meet him, Layton and Luke find a piece of paper on the ground, which appears to be a journal entry about Lady Violet and her illness.
They enter the manor to find Chelmey berating Matthew for bringing him a plate of sweets, seemingly repulsed by the very sight of them. Chelmey warns Layton to stop involving himself in the murder investigation and insists he focus instead on hunting down the Golden Apple. They decide to check in on Ramon, who once again has absolutely no recollection of the events of the previous day.
