Professor Layton Wiki

Layman is an antagonist in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. He's a mid-ranking member of the Family who bears an uncanny resemblance to Professor Layton. He's found in the alley on the way into Chinatown, and, later on in the game, during the Gilded 7 Casino shootout, defending himself with a chair.

Biography[]

Appearance[]

Layman is a diminutive, dot-eyed, brown-haired, fair-skinned man who oddly resembles Layton in many ways. Just like Layton, Layman's most defining feature is his top hat, which is tall, dark brown, and sports a red lint. Also like Layton, Layman wears a dark brown coat with the collar upturned and an orange shirt over it, and green shoes with white soles. Unlike Layton, however, Layman wears dark orange pants with black pinstripes, and the ends of his shirt sleeves are folded over the ends of his jacket sleeves. That, and Layman's face is much pudgier than Layton's, and his nose is bigger and darker in tone than the rest of his skin.

Personality[]

Puzzles[]

Layman gives Layton and Luke two puzzles during their time they venture through Future London. The puzzles that Layman gives them are "The Inheritance" and "The Mysterious Memo".

Profile[]

US Version
PL3Profile26

Layman is a gangster with romantic ideals. What he lacks in height, he makes up for in dexterity. He works for Bostro, but being literally below his boss's notice, he's been assigned to the undesirable backstreet post.

UK Version

Layman is a gangster with romantic ideals. Though not very tall, his unmatched dexterity makes him a promising recruit. He works for Bostro but, being literally below his boss's notice, he leads an unrewarding life in the back streets.

Trivia[]

  • Other than being similar to Layton's surname, "layman" also means "a person without professional or specialized knowledge in a particular subject", which references how Layman is nowhere near as intelligent as Layton. It also sounds like "lame man", which is fitting since Layman is essentially a "lame" version of Layton.
  • In Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy, on Case 06, there is a location called "The Layman's Reserve bank‏‎", though it is not known if he is related or if he even has some kind of association to it.
