Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box[]

When Professor Layton and Luke board the train, Flora secretly tails them. The train follows a set route from London to Luxenbelle, but there are rumours of a secret stop in a "phantom town" not found on maps. The deluxe carriage is completely out of bounds to those who haven't prebooked a compartment.

While exploring the train, Layton and Luke are astonished to find that Babette's little boy (dog), Tom, has gone missing. Inspector Chelmey, who also happens to be on board, is tasked with leading the search for Tom, under the knowledge that Tom is a lost child. As Layton and Luke search for Tom themselves, they are informed that a young girl was sighted with him, so they decide to visit the observation deck in pursuit of her.

When they corner the girl on the observation deck, the dog in her arms scampers away and her scarf is blown from the train with the wind, revealing her to be Flora in disguise. Layton agrees to allow her to accompany them on their investigation, so long as she is careful. Tom is shortly returned to Babette, with a quiet agreement to not mention Flora's involvement in the disappearance.

After a brief stop in the village of Dropstone, Layton, Luke, and Flora boarded the train once more in a bid to find a way to reach the rumoured "phantom town". Upon consulting some passengers and staff on the rumours, they decide to make their way towards the deluxe carriage, which they're able to gain access to through a puzzle lock.

Although they have no intention of staying long, all three of them are drugged into sleep by roses strategically placed in each compartment by Sammy Thunder as they pass through a long unlit tunnel. It's in this tunnel that the deluxe carriage is switched with a car on a different train, with the rest of the Molentary Express set to arrive in Luxenbelle but the deluxe carriage alone enroute to Folsense.

The train stops at its final destination, Folsense Station, where it remains abandoned until the next morning when it begins its return trip to London, stopping in Dropstone once again.

Professor Layton's London Life[]

The player arrives in town on the Molentary Express. The only passengers and employees shown are Hank, Mr. Beluga, and Sammy. Later on in the game, Mr. Beluga holds a ticket game, in which the player helps organize the locations the train is heading to.

Staff[]

Mr. Beluga[]

Mr. Beluga is the wealthy owner of the Molentary Express. The staff he employs regularly show apprehension around him due to his violent and cruel outbursts whenever a task isn't completed to perfection, such as the addition of an expensive painting he doesn't approve of or the quality of the dishes served in the dining cart.

Sammy Thunder[]

Samuel "Sammy" Thunder is Mr. Beluga's nephew and the conductor of the Molentary Express. Despite his relationship to Mr Beluga, he is still verbally berated regularly for the quality of his work and also occasionally forced to work on his days off. By the end of the game, once Sammy is cleared of a bogus murder charge he receives while searching for the Elysian Box on Mr Beluga's behalf, he decides he is sick of his job and decides to accomplish his dream of becoming a rock star instead.

Chester[]

Chester is the waiter in the dining car.

Macaroon[]

Macaroon is the only chef employed on the Molentary Express. Despite claiming to practice good food hygiene, he keeps an overweight hamster as a companion, feeding him leftovers.

Hank[]

Hank is responsible for any repairs and maintenance work on the train while enroute. He is also part of the team who "repairs" the train's deluxe carriage, ready for its journey to Folsense.

Sally[]

Sally is a waitress, whose job it is to travel between carriages with a snack trolley for passengers. She dislikes her job, commenting that most passengers would rather buy food from the dining cart anyway.

Layout[]

The Molentary Express has a total of 8 carriages, in addition to the front of the train which is completely inaccessible. The deluxe car (Car 2) is inaccessible until a certain point after Chapter 3.

Car 2 (Deluxe Carriage)[]

The deluxe carriage is the first passenger car of the train. This carriage houses the cabins for some of London's richest citizens including the train's owner, Mr. Beluga. Passengers in the deluxe carriage are drugged by flowers Sammy puts out and the train heads for Folsense. It's assumed that in addition to Layton, Luke, and Flora, Katia, Inspector Chelmey, and Barton are also were in this carriage, as they too visit Folsense.

Car 3[]

The third carriage of the Molentary Express holds the compartment that Layton shares with Luke. By some coincidence, Flora's room turns out to be next door to Layton's.

Car 4[]

The fourth carriage of the train holds the compartment for Capone and Mitzi.

Car 5 (Dining Car)[]

The dining car is where the majority of passengers choose to eat during their journey, waited on by Chester with their food cooked by Macaroon. Inside a small room off to the side is the kitchen, where Layton and Luke discover and "adopt" Macaroon's Hamster.

Car 6[]

The sixth carriage of the train holds the compartment for Babette, who shares this space with her dog, Tom.

Car 7[]

The seventh car of the train is another passenger car and holds the compartment for Granny Riddleton, who chooses to keep her shack inside.

Car 8 (Observation Deck)[]

The observation deck at the far end of the Molentary Express possesses an impressive view of the trees and fields that pass by. Chester suggests Layton and Luke spend some time enjoying the view the observation deck provides while they wait for a table to become available in the dining cart.
