011 - The Professor's Hat012 - Follow the Arrows013 - Pick the Pen

Follow the Arrows is a puzzle in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.

Puzzle

US Version

This puzzle is super easy. All you have to do is place each of the seven cards (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, +, and =) into the square that its arrow is pointing to.

Oh, and one more thing: the equation created by the cards has to be valid.

UK Version

This puzzle is easy-peasy. All you have to do is follow the arrows and move the seven cards with numbers and symbols on them to the spaces below.

Oh, one more thing: the equation has to work out, of course.

Hints

Click a Tab to reveal the Hint.

US Version

First, put each of the cards into the square that its arrow is pointing to. Make sure to get the order correct.

UK Version

Did you follow the arrows and put the cards in the right spaces?

Be sure not to mess up the order of the cards.

US Version

Did you put each card where it's arrow is pointing? If you did, you probably noticed that the equation is invalid.

What's going on here? Well, if you make a slight change to one of the cards, the equation will work just fine.

UK Version

If you followed the arrows and put the cards in the right spaces, you'll have noticed that the equation is wrong, and that you haven't solved the puzzle.

Don't worry, though. You can make the equation work out with just a slight change.

US Version

One of the cards that looks like a number can be changed into something else. You noticed that the cards can be rotated, didn't you?

UK Version

There is one card that can be changed from a number into something else simply by changing your way of looking at it.

Have a look for this numbered card.

US Version

To get the equation to equal 5, change one of the cards from a number to a mathematical symbol by rotating it.

UK Version

You need to find a calculation that uses three numbers to give you an answer of five.

If you make good use of a certain card, you'll complete the correct equation.

Use that card not as a number, but as a symbol.

Solution

Incorrect

US Version

Too bad!

Are you sure the equation is valid? Take another look, and try again.

UK Version

Too bad.

Does the equation work out?
Take a closer look.

Correct

US Version

Excellent!

The equation won't work if the cards are placed in their respective squares as is. You have to rotate the 1 card 90 degrees to make it a minus sign. Nice job!

UK Version

That's right!

The equation won't work out if you just put the cards in their places as they are.

You have to rotate the number one (1) 90 degrees to make a minus sign (-).
