Can you fit these five pieces together in the shape of Professor Layton's top hat without overlapping the pieces or leaving any empty space?

You can flip and rotate the pieces in order to do it.

US Version

Of course, you could solve the puzzle without flipping , but to do that, you'll need to flip everything else instead.

UK Version

Of course, you could also complete the puzzle the other way round, which would mean flipping and .

US Version

If you flip , don't flip or rotate . Just place it in the top-left corner as is.

UK Version

If you flip , then doesn't need to be rotated. Place it in the top-left corner of the hat.

US Version

Flip , then rotate it so the long side is laying flat. Then slide it into the bottom-left corner to form part of the hat's brim. Now rotate 90 degrees clockwise. Slide it next to to form the rest of the brim.

UK Version

Flip and position it horizontally. This is part of the hat's brim. The other part of the hat's brim is formed by when it is rotated.

US Version

If you've followed all of the hints, the only pieces left to place are and . If you rotate 180 degrees...

Make the shortest arm of a part of the brim. All you have to do now is slot in and , and the puzzle is complete.

These five blocks actually spell Layton in Japanese. Pretty cool, huh?

This puzzle is a variation on a traditional tangram. In tangram puzzles, the same seven pieces are combined to create various shapes.

Maybe we should call this five-piece version a Laytangram!

Trivia

While this puzzle remains the same in all versions, in the Japanese version the colors of all five blocks were black. This was changed in the international versions so that each of the five blocks were given a different color.
