Hints

US Version

Just to be unique, the shop owner has named each cat a different color than it actually is. Isn't that just dandy...

UK Version

Just to be original, the shopkeeper has named each cat after a material of a different colour from the ornament itself. Fancy that...

US Version

"Red is next to Blue," and "Red is on the end," so Blue is either B or D.

If "Blue is three over from Black," we just determined that Blue is either B or D, so black must be A or E.

However, "Black is not white," so Black must be A!

When trying to match this shape, be careful to match the size as well.

UK Version

"Ruby is next to Sapphire" and "Ruby is on the end", so Sapphire is either B or D.

"Sapphire is three over from Ebony", and we just determined that Sapphire is either B or D, so Ebony must be A or E.

However, "Ebony is not white", so Ebony must be A!

US Version

If A is Black, then D must be Blue. What's next to Blue? The last part should be pretty simple now.

UK Version

If A is Ebony, then D must be Sapphire. The last part should be pretty simple now.

US Version

"Red is next to Blue," and "Red is on the end," so E must be Red.

A is Black.

D is Blue.

E is Red.

Now consider the conditions you haven't accounted for, and you'll figure it out!

UK Version

"Ruby is next to Sapphire" and "Ruby is on the end", so E must be Ruby.

A is Ebony.

D is Sapphire.

E is Ruby.

Now consider the condition you haven't accounted for and you can work out which cat is Pearl!

The trick is to change your way of thinking.

UK Version

This puzzle's a bit mean, isn't it?
The trick is to change your way of thinking.

Correct

Good thinking!

US Version

The green cat is named White.

The shop owner named each cat after a different color that its coat. She's pretty weird, huh...

UK Version

The green cat is called Pearl.

The shopkeeper named each ornament after a precious material of a different colour. She would appear to be a bit eccentric...
