Ward is a member of the Family and a minor antagonist in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. He serves the Family chiefly as a guardsman.

Biography[]

Appearance[]

Ward is a tall man with fair skin, a hooked nose, and teal hair. He sports a mustache and a beard that connects to the hair on his head, and an angular bang that sticks out from under his hat. He wears a purple jacket with upturned lapels over a green suit. His suit covers a white shirt with cuffs that stick out the ends of his jacket's sleeves and a silver tie. On his head, he wears a white top hat with a red lint that bows down in the middle. And on his feet are long red shoes. He also wears glasses that lack temples, and seems to often look over them.

Personality[]

Ward is a stern and serious man with a cocky air about him. Despite this, he's very lousy at his job as guardsman, making him deeply unpopular with the scientists working under Future Layton. He's also apparently absent-minded, as his in-game profile states it's unknown whether the things he says and the poses he strikes are conscious or not.

Plot[]

Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva[]

He makes a small cameo in Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva. He is one of the contestants who survives Puzzle No. 001, but fails at Puzzle No. 002.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future[]

Ward is encountered a few times by Professor Layton and company. True to his role, he's usually guarding the various facilities owned by the Family, refusing to let Layton and company inside them until they've done something for him.

He's first encountered by the group on the way to the Gilded 7 Casino, where he only lets them pass after solving a puzzle. He's later seen guarding the entrance to the Towering Pagoda at the Belltower gate, where he informs the group that Future Layton is absent. A while later he lets them pass the gate after they solve a puzzle. He is encountered for the third and final time in the tunnel leading to the Research Facility, where he only lets the group pass if they have solved at least 80 puzzles.

Puzzles[]

Ward gives Layton and company the following puzzles:

He also serves as a "puzzle wall" late in the game, as he denies Layton and company entrance into the Research Facility until they've solved at least 80 puzzles.

Profile[]

US Version
PL3Profile31

Ward is the gangster in charge of guarding the entrance to the casino and the pagoda. It is unclear whether his posing is conscious or not. His lax attitude to guard duty makes him an unwitting favorite among the scientists.

UK Version

Ward guards the way to various Family establishments, such as the casino and the pagoda. It is unclear whether his posing is conscious or not. His lax attitude to guard duty makes him an unwitting favourite among the scientists.

Trivia[]

  • His name is derived form the word "ward", which means "to protect", referencing his role as the Family's guardsman.
  • His name in the Spanish version, Vigil, is derived from "vigilant", which means "to keep careful watch of possible danger". This is likely meant to be ironic, as it's stated in-game he's quite lousy at his job as guardsman.
